The Chaos is the Magic: Why Imperfect Family Sessions Are Actually Perfect

Meet My lil baby friend, Fisher!

Life just gets so much sweeter when your friends have babies, and let me take pictures of them!

If you've ever shown up to a family photoshoot worried your toddler might throw a tantrum or your kid won't stop picking their nose... you're not alone. And you're definitely not doing anything wrong.

Here’s a little secret from behind the lens: the chaos is the magic.

Family sessions aren’t about perfect smiles and everyone standing still. They’re about you. The laughter, the hugs, the snack bribes, the way your littlest one hides behind your leg — those are the moments you’ll want to remember.

As a photographer, I don’t expect perfection. What I’m really looking for is connection. A tickle fight between siblings. A parent sneaking a forehead kiss. The way your family fits together in all its beautiful, messy glory.

So here’s my advice:

  • Don’t worry if someone cries.

  • Don’t apologize if things get a little wild.

  • Don’t stress if someone’s outfit isn’t perfectly tucked in.

Just show up. Be present. Love on your people. I’ll handle the rest.

Because years from now, when you look back on these photos, you won’t be thinking about whether everyone smiled at the same time. You’ll be remembering what it felt like to hold your babies close and laugh together like that.

Let the chaos in — that’s where the magic lives. ✨
